How to make a diaper cake

Making a diaper cake can be fun, and give the mother-to-be something original from you showing her that she's someone special for you. You can of course buy something ready made, but making it yourself will be more personal and show how much you care. First of all, make sure that the diaper cake that you make is not only attractive but also useful and that the new mother will actually end up using it. It's your very special way of welcoming the newborn to our world and showing to the parent to be how much she matters to you. Here's how you can go about the task of making a diaper cake.

Select diapers for your cake, making sure that the color and prints are attractive. Select a combination of different sizes, so that the diapers could be used even as the baby grows. Your cake will remain longer as it will be used over a longer period of time. Take a diaper and wrap a rubber band around it. Add five more diapers to this, so that you have a tight bundle of six diapers. This will make up the topmost layer of your diaper cake. For the middle layer repeat the procedure but add more diapers, say around fifteen, and for the bottom layer add a still larger number, say about thirty diapers.

Now that you have the three layers, replace one diaper in the middle of each layer with a surprise gift. This could be any small and thoughtful item like a doll, cream or baby clothing. Assemble the layers into a cake by binding them. Use wooden dowels and secure the layers together. Cover the rubber bands with attractive ribbons. You can add use silk flowers to make the cake look more beautiful.

Cut a circular piece of cardboard to form the base. You could paste a silver foil on the base to make it look like a silver platter. Place the cake on base that you have made. Wrap the cake with cellophane or netting.
